Food safety officials at the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced Monday that the agency has retracted a health alert issued the previous week for chicken nuggets sold at Walmart stores.
The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service originally issued the alert for Great Value brand “Fully Cooked Dino Shaped Chicken Breast Nuggets” after routine sampling by New York state officials found elevated trace levels of lead.
Follow-up testing by the state and the processor, however, found “no elevated levels of lead in the product,” and an FSIS review determined that the original result was a “false positive, caused by sporadic lead contamination at the laboratory during analysis.”
“Follow up testing confirmed no elevated levels of lead were present in any of the products tested,” the agency wrote in the announcement.
