A Wisconsin company has recalled select packages of Einstein Bros. Bagels brand cream cheese after a packaging mishap omitted an allergen from the label.
Schreiber Foods Inc. said in a release posted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration that the affected 6-ounce cups of “Honey Almond” cream cheese spread contained the correct lid but the wrong cup. The cup, which was intended for “Plain” cream cheese, did not disclose the presence of almonds in the product.
Schreiber officials said that the recall affected 144 cases of the spread, which were shipped to store locations in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming. The company blamed a “limited packaging staging issue” that has since been corrected.
No illnesses were reported in connection with the problem as of March 27.
