Snacks maker Utz this week issued a recall of select bags of potato chips over their potential contamination with salmonella.

The Pennsylvania company said in a notice posted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration that the announcement followed a recall issued by one of its ingredient suppliers. A third-party supplier, the company said, notified Utz of potential salmonella contamination in seasoning that contained dry milk powder from California Dairies Inc.

The seasoning batches in question, the company said, tested negative for salmonella prior to their use, but Utz said that it recalled select chip varieties out of “an abundance of caution.” No illnesses or complaints were reported to the company as of Monday.

The recall affects select flavors and sizes of chips under Utz’s Zapp's and Dirty brands; the company advised consumers who have purchased those products to discard them, and said that retailers should check their shelves and inventories for the bags in question.
