Federal food safety regulators issued an alert Monday for grass-fed ground beef products that could be “contaminated with foreign material, specifically metal.”

The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service said that the 16-ounce packages of White Oak Pastures beef were shipped to a distributor and to Mom's Organic Markets retail locations in Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia and the District of Columbia.

The FSIS announcement said that two consumer complaints alerted officials to the problem. The product is no longer available for purchase, but officials advised consumers that have the affected packages in their freezers to discard them or return them to the place of purchase. No confirmed injuries had been reported as of Monday.
