After two popular pesticides used commonly to protect strawberries from pests were pulled from the market, strawberry growers are seeking alternatives to protect their crops and ensure higher yields. Rod Koda, a farmer who runs a 28-acre strawberry farm in Watsonville, Calif., explains the problem facing growers, saying,

"We're so limited in what we can do and the restrictions that are out there, it's getting tighter and tighter. Some of the alternatives don't show uniform results — a win-win one year and next year dead plants all over your field."
