Wisconsin Crane Maker Ships 500 Jobs to Pennsylvania

The move will make for a more efficient manufacturing footprint, lower costs and increased profit margins, the company said in a news release.

According to the ABC affiliate in Green Bay, WI (WBAY), Manitowoc Cranes has notified the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development and Mayor of Manitowoc that 528 employees will lose jobs as the company moves its crawler crane operations to Pennsylvania.

Manitowoc Crane sent a letter to Mayor Justin Nickels and the DWD giving notice of its intent to close the manufacturing facility.

The job cuts will take place in stages beginning this year, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, with an anticipated completion date of mid-2017, state officials said.

The move will make for a more efficient manufacturing footprint, lower costs and increased profit margins, the company said in a news release.

The company also said its corporate headquarters and the company’s product engineering and related support functions would remain in Manitowoc.
