The Hershey Company announced Thursday that it has reached definitive agreement to acquire LesserEvil, a maker of "better-for-you" popcorn and other snacks.
Hershey officials said that the addition of LesserEvil would complement its emerging portfolio of salty snack brands, which includes SkinnyPop popcorn, Dot's pretzels and Pirate's Booty snacks. LesserEvil's current leadership team will continue to lead the brand.
The deal is expected to close later this year, subject to approval from regulators. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
"Investing in LesserEvil brings a multi-category, better-for-you snacks platform to extend our offerings into new categories and forms, reaching new consumers in more eating occasions," Hershey President and CEO Michele Buck said in a statement. "This high-growth brand not only complements our beloved confection and salty snack brands but also brings additional manufacturing capabilities and capacity to meet growing consumer and retailer needs."
