Though California's Prop 37, an initiative aimed at forcing food companies to label genetically modified organisms (GMO) in food, was handily defeated last November, GMO-labeling advocates have not given up hope. Environmental groups have turned their focus to Hawaii, urging lawmakers in the state to pass legislation requiring the labeling of foods containing GMOs. Jessica Mitchell, a mother who testified in favor of such a bill, said,
"I and many mothers deserve the right to know what we are feeding our children."
