MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) β Two Vermont Senate committees are planning to take testimony on labeling of food produced with genetic engineering at an upcoming public hearing.
The session is set for 6-8 p.m. Thursday in the House chamber.
The Senate is reviewing legislation to require labeling β a measure that was passed by the House last year.
Supporters say consumers should have a right to know whether their food was produced through genetic engineering.
Opponents, including the biotech industry, say there's no difference between genetically engineered food and that produced by conventional methods, so labeling isn't necessary.
