Hershey is facing backlash over a product quality issue that has affected its bite-sized chocolate treat, the Kiss.

According to Business Insider, the chocolate company has launched an internal investigation after numerous complaints about Kisses being sold with the tips broken off.

Some shoppers were reportedly “infuriated” and stoked speculation on social media as to the cause.

Jeff Beckman, director of corporate communications, told Business Insider that, though there was often a lot of variability in food manufacturing, the company intended to “tighten up the variability to deliver a better consumer experience."

The company took to Twitter Wednesday with a lighthearted message showing Kisses with broken tips and asking customers to “celebrate our differences,” before adding the following: “We understand that expectations are high for an iconic brand that is more than 100 years old and are beloved around the world. We are sharing your comments and concerns with the Kisses brand team at Hershey and they are looking into the situation.”
