Virginia nuts, seeds and dried fruits producer Red River Foods has purchased a new facility to expand operations at its Richmond-area headquarters, state and company officials announced.
The company added the former Franz Haas Machinery site in Henrico County, where Red River will pasteurize, roast, season, blend and package products.
Officials said the project would allow the company to bring processing currently conducted by third-party partners in-house, as well as introduce new snack mix products.
The expansion is expected to cost some $15.5 million and create up to 23 jobs.
Red River moved from New York to Virginia in 1991; the company’s Henrico County site stores and distributes imported products from across the globe, including Asia, Africa and the Middle East.
“Red River Foods has proudly called Richmond, Virginia, home for more than three decades,” Red River CFO Sean Connor said in the announcement. “As we look to the future, it was important to us that Virginia continues to play a meaningful role in the next chapter of our story.”
