Italian coffee giant Lavazza announced Monday that it is bringing its single-serve coffee “tab” system to the U.S. for the first time.

The company said that its “Tablì” platform utilizes compressed coffee tabs with no capsules, coatings or wrappings with a machine that enables at-home espresso and espresso-based drinks.

The system will officially be launched in the U.S. in August following a successful debut in Italy. Lavazza officials called it “the most significant reinvention of single-serve coffee in a generation.”

Daniele Foti, the vice president of marketing for Lavazza North America, said in a statement that Tablì offers “a true multisensory experience: coffee you can smell, feel and see before it ever brews.” The launch, he added, also reflected the company’s ambitions in the U.S. coffee market.

“Tablì is more than a product innovation; it's how we establish Lavazza as a brand that genuinely matters to American coffee drinkers," Foti said.

The tabs, which the company says are precisely dosed, ground and tamped into a ready-to-use serving, will be initially available in “Super Crema,” “Espresso,” “Double Espresso,” “Lungo” and “Decaf” blends, while the machines come in black, white and “walnut brown” colors.
