Canned and frozen vegetable maker Allens Inc. is selling four of its food plants in the North and is pledging to focus on its Southern-style products.

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. (AP) — Canned and frozen vegetable maker Allens Inc. is selling four of its food plants in the North and is pledging to focus on its Southern-style products.

Siloam Springs-based Allens announced Friday it would sell three New York plants in Bergen, Brockfield and Oakfield along with a plant in Fairwater, Wis., to the private Bonduelle Group.

The plants employ a combined 400 people. The deal is to close this month and terms were not released.

Allens still owns two plants in Montezuma, Ga., which specialize in frozen breaded vegetable products and Southern-style frozen vegetables. The company says it is investing in technology and increased capacity at its Arkansas, North Carolina and Wisconsin facilities.

Allens CEO Rick Allen says focusing on the company's core business will lead to greater growth.
