Tyson Foods will close down a facility in Northwest Georgia and lay off its 168 workers, according to local reports.
The Rome, Georgia, site, which was operated under Tyson subsidiary Hillshire Brands, will close down at the end of May, WRDW-TV reported.
A statement from the company, posted by WRCB-TV, said that the Rome plant operated under “a unique single-customer model,” and that “recent changes have made continued operations at the site no longer viable.”
A company spokesperson also encouraged affected workers to apply for other roles with Tyson.
“We recognize the impact this has on our team members and the Rome community,” the spokesperson said in the statement.
