Some thieves are posing as truckers to load food and beverage freight into their own tractor-trailers and drive away with it. These thefts are little-known, and victimized companies are often reluctant to discuss their losses. But this alarming pattern is hurting commerce, pushing up consumer prices and potentially putting public health and safety at risk. Keith Lewis, vice president of CargoNet, a theft-prevention network that provides information to the insurance industry, said:
