The World's Best-Funded Vegan Food Companies

Nineteen of them are based in the United States, including six of the top seven.

American plant-based products company Impossible Foods is the best-funded vegan company of 2021, a new study has found.

The study, conducted by professional kitchen suppliers Maxima Kitchen Equipment, analyzed the funding available to more than 400 companies that specialize in the production of vegan and plant-based food.

Impossible Foods, founded in 2011 and based in California, takes top spot on the list with a whopping $1,591,537,000 of funding, coming from 54 investors. The company specializes in plant-based substitutes for meat, dairy, and fish products.

The top five continues with three more American companies: LIVEKINDLY, based in Los Angeles and founded in 2017 is second with $535,000,000 from just eight investors; Nature’s Fynd is third with funding totaling $508,000,000 from 17 investors since being founded in 2012 in Chicago. In fourth comes Eat Just, founded in 2011 and based in San Francisco, with $450,435,000 in funding.

A Chilean company based in Santiago closes the top five, NotCo, founded in 2015 and investments which amount to $359,999,995 from 18 investors.

The top 15 also features two overseas companies: RWDC Industries from Singapore is in 10th place. The company, founded in 2015, takes the crown as the best funded Asian company on the list with a budget of $168,000,000. Meanwhile, Australian v2food, active from 2019 in Sydney, registers $130,966,460 worth of funding and is the best-funded company in Oceania.

AllPlants, based in London, is the first British company to make the list in 24th place, with funds that amount to $71,644,584 and 16 investors.

The first and best-funded European company is Danish creator of plant-based meal kits Simple Feast which can be found in 27th place, with funding $58,812,353.

A spokesperson from Maxima Kitchen Equipment commented saying “Plant-based is the future of nutrition, with more people switching to a vegan diet in order to preserve the planet and decrease their carbon footprint. Our study shows how much effort there is behind this pledge, with plenty of investors – 134 among our top five alone – confident that making sure plant-based alternatives are available for everyone, everywhere is a lucrative business strategy.”

The research was carried out by Maxima Kitchen Equipment, which has more than 40 years of experience in the supply and maintenance of professional kitchen equipment.
