French toast is soon coming to sleeves of Girl Scout Cookies nationwide.

The Girl Scouts of the United States of America announced in a blog post Aug. 18 that a new French toast-themed cookie will be added to the organization's product lineup for the 2021 season. Shaped after its moniker, the new offering joins the Scouts' popular lineup that includes Thin Mints, S'Mores, Samoas/Caramel deLites, Shortbread and more.

Girl Scouts noted that its 2020 Cookie season has been challenging due to COVID-19, leading it to offer online ordering via its Girl Scouts Cookie Care platform while it provided product donations to frontline healthcare workers and first responders. The group said in the 2021 season, it will sell cookies through online platforms and "virtual cookie booths" on social media, while many other individual sellers will offer socially-distant or contactless sales and delivery options. In-person sales may also be available in certain areas, pending local guideline approval.

Currently, two commercial bakers — ABC Bakers (Richmond, VA) and Little Brownie Bakers (Louisville, KY) are licensed by Girl Scouts to produce their cookies.

The net proceeds from the group's cookie sales stay local with the originating council and troop to fund activities for girls year-round as well as girl-led community projects. According to Girl Scouts of the USA, each council determines its own revenue structure depending on how much it costs the council to buy cookies, the local retail price to sell cookies and the amount of revenue shared with participating troops.

The organization said its top five-selling cookie products are:

  1. Thin Mints
  2. Caramel deLites/Samoas
  3. Peanut Butter Patties/Tagalongs
  4.  Do-si-dos/Peanut Butter Sandwich
  5.  Trefoils/Shortbread
