Grocery giant Kroger plans to establish a new distribution hub in southwestern Kentucky that will create some 430 new jobs, state and company officials announced earlier this month.

The $391 million distribution center in Simpson County will feature automated technologies and the capacity to scale, officials added. It will join four other Kroger manufacturing and distribution facilities in Kentucky, as well as its regional headquarters in Louisville. Kroger-owned bakery Country Oven also recently announced a more than $200 million expansion in Bowling Green, officials noted.

The project is eligible for up to $12 million in tax incentives over a 15-year agreement with state economic development officials, along with the ability to recoup sales and use taxes of up to $1 million related to construction and equipment costs.

Kroger, based in nearby Cincinnati, says it is the nation’s largest traditional grocer. The company employs more than 19,000 people in Kentucky.
