The LA city council voted earlier this week 11-1 to ban plastic grocery bags. In lieu of a unanimous vote the council will vote again next week, at which time a simple majority vote will advance the ban. Councilman Bill Rosendahl is a supporter of the bill and said before the vote,
"Go see what plastic does to a fish, what it does to a food chain, what it does to life itself. This is a historic step in the right direction."
