AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — A group of Maine parents are calling on Gov. Paul LePage to sign a bill designed to provide information about food packaging that contains the toxic chemical bisphenol-A.
The group of parents met at the Capitol's Hall of Flags on Monday morning.
The bill would require companies with $1 billion or more in gross annual sales to report to the state if they use chemicals like BPA in food packaging.
The Legislature approved the bill last month. It now awaits the governor's signature.
Director of Environment Maine Emily Figdor says in a statement that passing the bill will bring Maine "one step closer to getting BPA out of the food supply" with "absolutely no burden on Maine businesses."
