The maker of M&M’s and Skittles candy says that it will debut versions of several products made without synthetic food coloring next year.

Mars Inc. said in a statement late last month that the company will introduce varieties of chocolate M&M’s, original Skittles, original Starburst and Extra brand spearmint gum made without “FD&C colors” across the U.S.

The company added that it would announce additional ingredient commitments and timelines when “we have identified fully effective, scalable solutions across the entire portfolio.”

The announcement comes amid a broader effort by the FDA to phase out synthetic colors in food.

“Our approach is always consumer-focused and science-led, and all of our delicious Mars Wrigley products meet the high standards and applicable regulations set by food safety authorities around the world, including the FDA,” Mars Wrigley North America and Global Ice Cream President Anton Vincent said in the statement.
