Cayuga Milk Ingredients has officially opened a $270 million expansion of its Upstate New York dairy ingredients plant, state and company officials announced last week.
The project’s first phase added an ultra-high temperature/aseptic low acid packaging system, along with a reverse osmosis filtration system. A second phase added new equipment and machinery and expanded its wastewater treatment facilities.
Officials said the project would allow the maker of high-protein milk, powders and ultrafiltered dairy ingredients to better assist its clients, as well as create additional opportunities for dairy farmers in New York state. It is also expected to more than double the company’s workforce from the current 100 up to as many as 250 employees.
State officials provided $4 million in tax incentives and a $4 million grant for capital spending to support the project.
“Cayuga Milk Ingredients is proud to be a key player in New York's dairy industry, with the investment in our new aseptic and extended shelf-life fluid dairy production facility driving long term growth in our community,” Cayuga Milk Ingredients and Cayuga Marketing CEO Brian Linney said in a statement.
