Man Dies in Second Fatal Industrial Accident Near Disney World

His co-worker had to watch as he sank into the vat of oil.

A 61-year-old man is dead after falling into a vat of oil near Disney World shortly after midnight last Wednesday.

Two men were emptying grease from a truck at an energy facility when 61-year-old John Korody slipped on a metal grate and fell into the vat where he reportedly succumbed to the fumes.

His co-worker was unable to reach him and watched as Korody sank into the vat.

The incident occurred at the Harvest Power plant, which converts food and yard waste into biofuel, compost, mulch and fertilizer.

According to Harvest Power, the location in Orlando recycles organic waste for the area, which includes grease trap and packaged food waste from the Walt Disney World Resort.

A Harvest Plant spokesperson said the company was "deeply saddened" and "figuring out what happened."

The company had a moment of silence for Korody, and has emphasized safety measures to employees after the incident.

The fatal industrial accident is the second in the area in a couple of months.

In July, 33-year-old Juan Alberto Ojeda was working on a Toro utility vehicle at a maintenance facility when the cart started moving, drove up against a fence and then fell on top of Ojeda. Co-workers tried to pull the vehicle off of him, but it was too heavy and he died as a result of the injuries.

On the same day a worker was severely injured after a fall in an industrial accident at Disney's Animal Kingdom. The man who was injured in the fall is expected to survive.
