Undeclared Peanut Ingredient Triggers Recall

The problem was caused by a temporary breakdown in production and packaging processes.

Seasoning

Accra Super Market in Worcester, Massachusetts is recalling 0.53 lb. packages of Suya Barbecue Seasoning because it may contain undeclared peanuts. People who have allergies to peanuts run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product. The recalled seasoning was sold in stores in Massachusetts and New York.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with the mislabeling.

The recall was initiated after routine testing conducted by the State of New York Department of Agriculture and Markets found undeclared peanuts in the product.  Subsequent investigation indicates the problem was caused by a temporary breakdown in the company's production and packaging processes. Distribution of the product has been suspended until the FDA and the company are certain that the problem has been corrected.
