Central Wisconsin cheese packaging and transportation company Marathon Cheese is expanding its production capabilities at its facility in Northeast Mississippi, state and company officials announced last month.
The $326,000 project added new equipment, including a production line that the company said would increase slicing and packaging capacity at the Booneville campus. Installation of the new equipment was completed at the end of July; the company expects to add 39 jobs as part of the expansion.
The facility employed 192 full-time workers as of mid-August.
“Booneville offers both the infrastructure and workforce needed by Marathon Cheese for this strategic investment,” Marathon Cheese President Gary Bachand said in a statement.
Marathon Cheese was founded in 1952; the Booneville location was added a decade later. The state’s economic development agency, along with local governments and the Tennessee Valley Authority, are providing undisclosed “assistance” to the company.
