Foodservice distributor Saval Foods broke ground this month on a new facility outside Baltimore that will become its new headquarters and distribution center, state and company officials announced.
The 230,000 square-foot complex in Columbia will include both the distribution center and a “multi-story office building.” The company said that the hub will consolidate its corporate operations and its two businesses in Howard County — broadline distributor Saval Foodservice and fresh produce and fresh-cut meat division 1932 Specialty Produce & Meat — at a single location.
The project is expected to add 107 new jobs in the state over four years.
“This new headquarters represents an important milestone for Saval Foods,” President and CEO Paul Saval said in the announcement. “Bringing our operations together under one roof will allow us to work more efficiently, strengthen collaboration across our teams and create the space we need to continue growing.”
Saval, founded in 1932, says its is one of the largest broadline foodservice distributors in the Mid-Atlantic. The company’s Howard County facilities, along with others in Baltimore County and the city of Baltimore, will remain in operation during construction of the Columbia hub.
The company is eligible for over $2.5 million in loans from state and county economic development agencies to support the project, as well as workforce development grants and additional state tax credits.
