Swiss cocoa producer Barry Callebaut announced Thursday that it has officially opened a new chocolate factory in Ontario.

The $104 million Brantford plant is the company’s first new factory in North America since 2008 and its third manufacturing facility in Canada.

The company said that the facility features advanced production lines for solutions across “the entire spectrum of cocoa and chocolate” — including liquid molding, liquid chocolate and industrial molding — as well as integrated warehousing capabilities.

The expansion would also bolster Barry Callebaut’s North American footprint, and reflects its “confidence in the region’s chocolate market.”

“Brantford is more than a new facility, it’s a hub for innovation, service and excellence in everything we create,” Barry Callebaut North America President Natasha Chen said in a statement. “This plant will allow us to work even more closely with our customers, delivering the chocolate solutions they need while strengthening our presence in Canada and the entire region.”
