Frozen potato product maker Lamb Weston announced Tuesday that it has opened a new “state-of-the-art” production facility in Argentina.

The 40,000-square-meter plant, located in the port city of Mar del Plata, aims to meet growing demand for french fries and other potato products in the Latin American market, Lamb Weston officials said.

The Idaho potato processor said the new facility can make up to 100 varieties of frozen potato products and process as many as 200 million pounds of potatoes per year. About 80% of its output will go to Brazil and other markets in Latin America; its first shipments to Brazil have already been completed, officials said.

Lamb Weston has added 250 jobs at the plant and expects the project to add another 3,000 indirect jobs. The company is working with more than 100 suppliers in the area, as well.

“This grand opening marks the completion of our quest to build out a modern, state-of-the-art facility, setting new standards for quality, efficiency and sustainability,” Lamb Weston President and CEO Mike Smith said in a statement.
