Sparkling water brand Spindrift will discontinue its line of hard seltzers after four years, citing changing consumer attitudes and other challenges posed by producing alcoholic beverages.
Spindrift officials wrote in a blog post that the market in 2025 is much different that that of 2021, when Spindrift Spiked was launched amid a broader boom in hard seltzers. Demand for those products — and other alcoholic beverages overall — has slipped as consumers increasingly turn to “no-ABV options, mocktails and more.”
The company also outlined the unique challenges of operating in the alcohol segment, including different market approaches, manufacturing requirements and regulatory standards.
The brand will instead “double down” on its core products, including its sparkling water and soda varieties and additional “innovations galore.”
"Making the decision to move on from a beloved product line is never easy,” Spindrift CEO Dave Burwick said in a statement. “We are incredibly proud of the impact that our team was able to achieve in the marketplace, and this is a difficult decision, but the right one to better serve the needs of our customers."
