Campbell Soup Reports Stronger-than-Expected Profit

The maker of Pepperidge Farm cookies and V8 juice posted $2.46 billion in quarterly revenue.

CAMDEN, N.J. (AP) — Campbell Soup Co. on Wednesday reported fiscal second-quarter net income of $203 million.

The New Jersey-based canned soup maker said it had net income of 68 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for restructuring costs and amortization costs, were 80 cents per share.

The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of 10 analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 77 cents per share.

The company, which also makes Pepperidge Farm cookies and V8 juice, posted revenue of $2.46 billion in the period, which also beat Street forecasts. Seven analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $2.42 billion.

Campbell expects full-year earnings in the range of $3.09 to $3.15 per share.

Shares of the company climbed 4.1% early Wednesday following the strong profit report.
