A contract manufacturer of snack bars, cookies and chocolate plans to add an additional facility to its operations in western Pennsylvania, state and company officials announced.
Tandem Foods will spend some $42 million to lease and equip a fourth production location near its headquarters in suburban Pittsburgh. The new facility will feature a cold form bar production line and represents what Tandem leaders called the “single largest investment” in its 40-year history.
The company expects the expansion to add 83 jobs to its current Pennsylvania workforce of 446 employees over the next three years.
Pennsylvania’s economic development agency offered a $420,000 grant to support the project.
“We’re excited to make this investment in Pennsylvania, leveraging the skilled manufacturing workforce that we’ve relied on for years,” Tandem CEO Michael Buick said in a statement.
Tandem produces cold-slab bars, chocolate moulding and other products at its O’Hara Township facilities. The company also operates locations in California and on Long Island.
