General Mills reportedly plans to shutter three of its facilities in Missouri amid a broader restructuring effort.
The Minnesota-based maker of Cheerios cereal, Progresso soups and Green Giant vegetables indicated that the plants slated for closure include a pizza crust facility in suburban St. Louis and a pair of pet food sites in Joplin. The latter two locations, the Wall Street Journal reported, were added through General Mills’ acquisition of Whitebridge Pet Brands last year.
A company spokesperson told the Minnesota Star Tribune that the work at those facilities would shift to other General Mills locations; reports did not indicate where the production might go or how many jobs could be affected.
General Mills had hoped to save $100 million in its 2026 fiscal year — part of a longer-term cost-cutting effort expected to wrap up by the end of FY2029. The cereal maker is also shutting down its in-house R&D division and halting new investments by its venture arm, the WSJ noted.
