JBS USA announced Thursday that it will spend $135 million to build a new “state-of-the-art” sausage plant in central Iowa.
The Perry, Iowa, facility is expected to process some 500,000 sows per year and produce 130 million pounds of sausage annually. The project is expected to create 500 jobs.
Construction — which would require another 250 jobs — could begin late in the year; JBS plans to open the plant with one shift of 250 workers in late 2026. A second shift would be added "in the future."
“This investment underscores our commitment to rural America and our confidence in the strength of the U.S. market,” JBS USA CEO Wesley Batista Filho said in the announcement. “We plan to be a long-term partner for Perry and, if approved by the community, the facility will help foster job creation and economic stability in the region.”
