Spirits company Sazerac announced Wednesday that it will rename a recently acquired whiskey distillery in hopes of creating "a global hub for Irish whiskey."
The former Lough Gill Distillery in County Sligo will now be known as Hawk's Rock Distillery — named for an outcrop in the nearby Ox Mountains that inspired a William Butler Yeats play. Sazerac officials said the more than 100-acre campus — including the historic landmark Hazelwood House — would continue to produce and age Irish whiskey under Master Blender Helen Mulholland.
Sazerac acquired Lough Gill in 2022 and has since expanded production and tripled its warehouse capacity.
"We are excited to reveal how we are blending time-honored traditions with bold innovation to advance the art of Irish whiskey-making," Sazerac President and CEO Jake Wenz said in a statement.
