Mineral processing company Omya announced Wednesday that it has finished the first phase of a project to revitalize its agricultural minerals facility in eastern Kansas.
The company acquired the Wathena, Kansas, plant in 2022, and has added new quality control lab space, dust removal equipment, feed controls and more.
Omya officials said the plant will expand its offerings in the Midwest, serving Midwest and Great Plains farmers along with customers in row and specialty crops, turfgrass and home retail.
Additional upgrades to the facility, meanwhile, are slated to begin this year.
"This revitalization project is a success because a lot of critical upgrades came together and added up to improve the overall work environment for our employees and make the facility what Omya's world-class standards require it to be — a safe and efficient producer of consistently high-quality products," Olav Bergset, the plant's operations director, said in a statement.
