Wisconsin fermentation company Microbial Discovery Group is building a third facility in suburban Milwaukee, the company said Tuesday.

MDG expects to invest $30 million into the new, 117,000-square-foot facility in Franklin, Wisconsin. The project is expected to create 46 full-time jobs and become operational by June.

The expansion, officials said, will provide MDG with the necessary space to increase its fermentation and lyophilization capacities.

"With the rapid evolution of biotech solutions to solve modern-day problems, there is a growing need for fermentation and drying capabilities of larger capacities," MDG CEO Mike King said in a statement. "We are thrilled to be an integral part of helping our clients and scientists provide natural solutions that make such a difference in the world."
