Greek yogurt producer Chobani plans to make its largest facility investment to date at its plant in Idaho, local government officials announced Thursday.

The $500 million expansion of the Twin Falls plant would add more than 500,000 square feet of space, increase production by 50% and create at least 160 additional jobs.

Construction is scheduled to begin "immediately," and the expansion is set to start operations early next year. Once completed, the Twin Falls plant will feature 24 production lines and a workforce of more than 1,200.

The company and city, along with the Urban Renewal Agency of the city of Twin Falls, also announced an agreement outlining "responsibilities, funding and commitments" related to the expansion.

“This isn’t just a place where yogurt, oat milk and coffee creamers are made," company officials said in the announcement. "It’s a place where, in the Magic Valley, farmers, engineers and dreamers come together to make food that nourishes millions.”
