Investigators are looking into what caused an ammonia leak and explosion last week at an Illinois food manufacturer that left two people injured.
According to reports, the explosion occurred around 7 a.m. at Grecian Delight Foods in Elk Grove on Friday, July 7. The blast blew out walls and windows on the west and north sides of the plant. A water main was also ruptured. About 100 employees were working at the time. Workers were evacuated from the plant and the surrounding area was closed to pedestrian and vehicle traffic.
A female worker was burned in the incident and was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A hazmat technician was also transported to a hospital for medical issues caused from being in the hazmat suit.
According to the company website, Grecian Delight Foods is a manufacturer and marketer of Greek and Mediterranean for the food service and retail industries.
