Molson Coors on Monday announced that Chief Strategy Officer Rahul Goyal will take over as the brewer's new chief executive next week.

Goyal, who will assume his new role as president and CEO on Oct. 1, succeeds Gavin Hattersley, who announced plans to retire this spring. Hattersley will remain with the company in an advisory role through the end of the year.

Goyal has been with the brewer for 24 years, starting at the Coors brand and later holding roles with the company's divisions in the U.K. and India.

“After conducting an extensive and thorough CEO succession process that included evaluating internal and external candidates, it was clear that Rahul brought the right experience and vision that we believe is needed to drive the next phase of growth for Molson Coors,” David Coors, the chairman of the Molson Coors board, said in the announcement.

"I’m ready to take on both the opportunities and the challenges ahead of us knowing that we have the brands, the people and the passion to deliver on our ambitions," said Goyal. "I recognize that we have a lot of work to do, and in the coming months I will share more on my vision for how we will drive growth and carry the legacy of this great company forward to reach new heights.”
