PepsiCo on Monday introduced a new line of “Prebiotic Cola” beverages that it says represents the first “significant innovation” in the conventional cola market in two decades.

The company launched Pepsi Prebiotic Cola in "Original Cola" and "Cherry Vanilla" flavors. The sodas have 5 grams of cane sugar, 3 grams of prebiotic fiber and contain 30 calories. They do not include artificial sweeteners.

“Pepsi Prebiotic Cola represents the next leap forward in giving consumers choice, optionality and functional ingredients in their cola experience, without sacrificing the iconic Pepsi taste we're known for delivering,” Ram Krishnan, the CEO of PepsiCo Beverages U.S., said in a statement.

The sodas will be available online in single cans at eight-packs; retail sales will begin early next year.

The announcement follows PepsiCo’s acquisition of prebiotic soda brand Poppi in a deal worth nearly $2 billion earlier this year.
