General Mills Posts Stronger-than-Expected Earnings

The maker of Cheerios cereal and Yoplait yogurt said quarterly revenue eclipsed $5 billion.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — General Mills Inc. on Wednesday reported fiscal third-quarter net income of $670.1 million.

The Minnesota-based company said it had net income of $1.17 per share.

The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of eight analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.04 per share.

The maker of Cheerios cereal, Yoplait yogurt and other packaged foods posted revenue of $5.1 billion in the period, which also topped Street forecasts. Seven analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $4.95 billion.

Share of the company were up up 80 cents to $69.43 in Wednesday trading.
