Cyberattack Blamed for Nationwide Cream Cheese Shortage

The main ingredient in many decadent desserts and creamy dips is suddenly nowhere to be found.

As the holidays approach, Americans spend big money on the groceries they need for family gatherings and home-cooked meals.

But the main ingredient in many decadent desserts and creamy dips – cream cheese – is suddenly nowhere to be found.

While global supply chain problems are to blame for many holiday-related shortages, this one has a different origin.

According to reports, Wisconsin-based cheese producer Schreiber Foods was hit by a cyberattack back in October.

The breach was so crippling that the company was unable to operate for several days during peak cream cheese production time.

Heading into the holiday season, the producer was already struggling to keep up with demand, and fresh dairy products aren’t able to be stockpiled in advance.

The company says the problem will take a little more time to resolve, but they expect the overall impact to be short-lived.

But it might not be in time for the holidays, where demand for cream cheese has continued to be higher than usual since the pandemic began.
