7UP Workers Strike, Urge Boycotts

A spokesperson for Dr. Pepper Keurig claims the company is negotiating in good faith.

Workers at a 7UP warehouse in Redford, Michigan have been picketing 24-7 since March 11th.

The strike includes delivery drivers, warehouse workers, mechanics and other staff, who demand equal pay and fair labor practices.

At issue, says The Detroit News, is what workers view as the company’s failure to address pay disparities between its Tier 1 and Tier 2 union workers.

They also claim management laughed out loud when workers requested Martin Luther King Jr. Day be a paid holiday.

The most recent contract with the warehouse’s 80 Teamsters expired in February.

A spokesperson for 7UP’s parent company, Dr. Pepper Keurig, claims the company is negotiating in good faith.

Said Vicki Draughn, VP, Corporate Communications, “Our offer to the union includes increased wages for all employees” and “employees are free to select their designated paid holidays.”

Last week, the two sides agreed to allow a federal mediator to join talks in the hopes of reaching a resolution.
