Massive Plastic Pallet Fire Seen for 40 Miles

About 1.5 acres of plastic pallets were set ablaze at a tomato processing plant.

On Tuesday, a five-alarm blaze erupted at the Mizkan America tomato processing plant in Stockton, Calif.

According to local authorities, the fire started at 5 a.m., when 1.5 acres of plastic pallets were set ablaze. 


Firefighters fought it for hours, but the fire eventually spread to 1,000 plastic tomato crates stored in the middle of the pallet yard. 

According to the Stockton Record, the plume of smoke could be seen as far as 40 miles north of the facility. 

No structures were damaged and no workers were injured, but one firefighter was taken to the hospital for heat exhaustion. 

The plant is known for making pasta sauces, like Ragu and Bertolli.

Mizkan America has not yet released a statement regarding the fire. 

Local authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire.

More
