They say the textile business is a rat race and, I’ll be honest, today’s story takes it to another – much more literal – level.
The New York Post is reporting that 24-year-old Cailey Fiesel wore a new dress to work recently that she’d purchased from a Zara department store in Greenwich Connecticut. After noticing what she described as a “disturbingly pungent odor,” Fiesel stood up and walked around, but soon it became clear that it wasn’t just someone’s gnarly leftovers in the office microwave. It was coming from her dress.
It was then that she noticed a bulge in the hemline and discovered the corpse of a 2 and a half inch mouse that had been sewn into the dress.
The Post interviewed New York factory owner Teddy Sadaka, who was not affiliated with the garment in question but gave his two cents anyway. Sadaka feels this must have been done deliberately by a worker at the Turkish factory where the item was manufactured. “It looks like a prank from a worker being paid a couple of cents and saying, ‘Take that, America!’” he said, saying he couldn’t imagine a mouse running around all those noisy sewing machines.
Zara, the retailer of the dress, says it will be investigating the matter further. Meanwhile, since this is America – Ms. Fiesel is suing the dressmaker because she claims to have developed a bad rash that was diagnosed as a “rodent-borne disease” and suffers some lingering emotional stress.
