TULSA, Okla. (AP) — If you had to pick a winner so far in Oklahoma's pollution trial against the Arkansas poultry industry, it might well be the lawyers.
As the case enters a fifth day of testimony Wednesday, the trial has featured courtroom theatrics and bluster with 30-some attorneys exchanging barbs and one-liners.
Things came to a head Tuesday when frustrated U.S. District Court Judge Gregory K. Frizzell stopped the trial for 10 minutes and called the attorneys up to the bench.
Oklahoma is suing industry giants Tyson Foods Inc., Cargill Inc. and nine other companies over chicken waste pollution in the Illinois River watershed on the Arkansas-Oklahoma border.
The industry says it has acted responsibly and within the law in the way it handles the waste.
