US Tea Sales Increased 5.9 Percent Last Year

Tea is the world's second most-consumed beverage after water. According to a new report published in the current issue of HerbalEGram, sales of loose, bagged, concentrated, and herbal tea in the United States increased by 5.9 percent in 2013.

Fuji Food to Expand to Chicago Suburbs, Create 110 Jobs

A California-based fresh food manufacturer, Fuji Food Products Inc., is expanding in the Chicago suburbs. The company is opening a $2.5 million food processing and distribution facility in South Elgin that is expected to create 110 jobs.

Tentative Deal to Settle XL Foods Beef Recall Lawsuit

Lawyers have brokered a tentative deal to settle part of a class-action lawsuit filed over an E. coli outbreak and the largest meat recall in Canadian history. The lawsuit is against XL Foods Inc., which operated a meat-packing plant in southern Alberta during the tainted beef recall in 2012.

The True Source Honey CertificationTM Program, whose mission it is to protect consumers, retailers and manufacturers from illegally sourced honey, has issued an alert concerning honey labeled as coming from Turkey. The U.S. has had repeated problems with honey that is illegally shipped from China to avoid anti-dumping duties.

Kentucky Whiskey Maker Fetches More Than $28K For 1st Bottle of Bourbon

The bottle appeared to rank among the most expensive bottles of bourbon ever sold. Eric Gregory, president of the Kentucky Distillers' Association, said he doesn't know of any other bottle that sold for that amount or higher. All of the money will go to a local charity.

Statewide vote totals released Monday show an Oregon ballot measure that would require labeling of genetically modified foods was losing by a mere 809 votes and will go to an automatic recount.

New FDA Rules Will Put Calorie Counts on Menus

The FDA announced long-delayed calorie labeling rules requiring establishments that sell prepared foods and have 20 or more locations to post the calorie content of food "clearly and conspicuously" on their menus, menu boards and displays. Companies will have until November 2015 to comply.

Budweiser Clydesdales Receive Pink Slip For the Holidays

Salmonella in 10 States Linked to Raw Sprouts

Raw sprouts are linked to dozens of cases of food poisoning — again. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says 63 people from 10 states concentrated on the East Coast fell ill with salmonella linked to bean sprouts from a supplier in New York City.

Mobile Processor Helps Washington Turkey Farmers

Commercial Hop Facility Planned in Virginia

Black Hops Farm LLC will invest about $1 million to initially convert 15 acres in Leesburg into a hop farm and build a processing facility, which will allow other Virginia hop growers to efficiently process their crops for market, Gov. Terry McAuliffe announced.
