Wed, 02/05/2014 - 9:58am

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Kellogg Co. says it plans to close its Charlotte snack factory as part of an effort to cut costs, eliminating nearly 200 jobs.

The Charlotte Observer reports the company said in a statement Tuesday that the plant will close by the end of the year. Kellogg also said Tuesday that it will close two production lines at its snack factory in Cincinnati.

The Charlotte plant produces cookies including Famous Amos, Austin Sandwich Creme and Iced Animals.

CEO John Bryant said the company will help people impacted by the closing.

In December, Kellogg announced plans to close plants in Australia and Canada. At the same time, the company is increasing production at a plant in Thailand and building a new Malaysian snack factory.
