TOKYO, Jan. 28 (Kyodo) — Nissin Foods Holdings Co. said Monday it will set up a research center specialized in developing instant ramen noodles and other new products in Tokyo in November with an investment of about 6.3 billion yen.

The Japanese food company will combine the function of several laboratories of its group into the new one as part of efforts to streamline operations and cut costs.

Nissin will sell a building and land, where the company's two laboratories, in Kusatsu, Shiga Prefecture, are located, to Takara Bio Inc., a bio research company based in Otsu, Shiga, for about 3.1 billion yen, while shifting their research functions to the new laboratory.

Research operations of its laboratory in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, will also be transferred to the new lab, to be set up on the premises of about 87,000 square meters in the city of Hachioji, it added.
