Seafood Substitutions Expose Consumers to Dangerously High Levels of Mercury

Fishery "substitutions"— which falsely present a fish of the same species, but from a different geographic origin — are the most dangerous mislabeling offense, according to University of Hawai‘i at Manoa scientists. Mislabeling can expose consumers to high levels of mercury.

A 43-year-old worker for U.S. Foods Inc. has been indicted on charges of embezzling more than $400,000. Cesar Raphael Barretto was indicted on nine counts of wire fraud. Barretto worked for the company helping customers place orders.

Heineken Sales Drop Due to Strong Euro

Heineken NV reported its first half earnings with a small drop in both revenue and profits. Sales were down 1.4 percent to 1.2 billion euros, which Heineken, the largest brewer by sales in Europe, said was due to the strong euro.
